Hello again my loves,
Quick intro into my absence - personal issues and uni work have really taken hold of me but it won't put me off getting out content for you all!
So today I'm going to talk about Lemonade. No not the refreshing citrus drink. The refreshingly bold album by one of everyone's favourites.
Beyonce told the world to tune into HBO on April 29th and everyone was abuzz( Beyhive joke for fans) and during the Game of Thrones premiere showcased the videos to her new visual album. The videos were artistic and showcased the struggles that black females face in America bringing along the mothers of Eric Garner, Trayvon Martin and Micheal Brown some of the young men that were gunned down by the police in the past.
Alongside the powerful messages regarding the treatment of black woman, the album also celebrates them for their bravery and willingness to overcome, a message that has often been put out in the media but coming for a superstar of her magnitude has really made waves.
Lemonade also addresses the infidelity rumours that have been around for a while regarding Beyonce’s marriage to Jay Z, the couple are notoriously quiet about their relationship and aside from their music stay out of the public eye. But in the album Bey tells all, every song being a different not so sly jab to Jay Z and his various indiscretions - telling him to call “Becky with the good hair” and not so politely telling him he can watch her move onto the next (I’d listen to Don’t Hurt Yourself so you get the gist) though despite all of this there’s been no say in whether she is leaving him. Especially as the album was listed exclusively on his music network Tidal.
My personal favourites are “Hold Up” and “Don’t Hurt Yourself”.
Make sure to give them a listen and tell me your favourites!
Ren.
